Learning the Open Source R language

I am learning the R language in my free time, which is not much right now until I finish my rather compressed 6 week long summer accounting and QB classes at CSM. But I am reading about R and doing the basic syntax exercises when I need a break from the grind and a distraction...Right now the experience is rather similar to learning html (so that I can edit my blogs). The R code does feel simpler (is that why some say the R language is elegant). Guess I have only just begun. The following links have been very good resources for me:

Below are the two resource pages you should check out first: Beginner's Guide to R Introduction
and
Some Hints for the R Beginner

If after checking out those links you think you might want to give it a try, go to Try R Code School and earn your badges there. What a great way to learn for the un-initiated. Thank you Try R Code School!

I am not sure just yet what I would use the R language for. Perhaps once I have accumulated a bit of knowledge and skills with the language I can attempt to write a simple program to do basic calculations on my favorite subjects: finance, options, accounting?? When I feel I have learned just enough to attempt writing a simple program with R, the idea of what it will be hopefully comes naturally to me.....

Yahoo Messenger stopped working on Vista - I fixed it

In case you have been exasperated by the same issue that has plagued me for months, I just managed to fix the problem and I am elated. Yahoo messenger finally launched and I was able to sign in now on my Acer laptop running Windows Vista. As experienced by many who reported the problems on various forums and web and many still could not get it resolved, hopefully this works for you as well. Yahoo in general seems to get worse which has led to me to gradually ditch yahoo mail and migrate to Google mail. Not able to use Yahoo Messenger on my Vista means I was using Google + more and more (Yahoo - are you listening!!). It was like one day you woke up and Yahoo Messenger no longer works on Vista.

I searched the web high and low for possible fixes, I tried installing and uninstalling yahoo messenger to no avail. Yahoo Messenger diagnostics would tell me it is my Internet connection and to check my Internet proxy settings and the problem can only be rectified using Internet explorer, huh???...I have no issues using Yahoo Mail on the same computer.

Finally I came across this link fix crashing freezing issues Yahoo Messenger that suggested that I delete Personal Settings on my IE.

I launched IE 9.0 and select Internet Options then Advanced then Reset then Delete personal settings then remember to click OK. You have re launch your IE for the changes to take effect. Viola, it works and Yahoo Messenger is launching now on Windows Vista Home Premium

If you are having the same problem with Yahoo Messenger not refusing to launch or let you sign in successfully, try to delete your personal settings on your Internet Explorer and restart computer or IE and hopefully it fixes the issues for you.

I still don't like Vista, but that is another issue all together. Right now Yahoo Messenger works on my laptop and that is all that matters.
